Research Paper – Annotated Bibliography Instructions

The annotated bibliography is a collection of 10 one-paragraph summaries of peer-reviewed journal resources that you intend to use in the Research Paper – Final Draft.

  1. The articles must be current or dated within the past 5 years.
  2. Do not paste the article abstract in the annotated bibliography paper. Annotations must be your summary of the article. The summary must include any research findings that were included in the article. (Do not simply state that the authors conducted a study without providing a summary of the findings.)
  3. Do not paste the Annotated Bibliography in the final draft of your paper. The Annotated Bibliography simply provides information that will contribute to the Research Paper – Final Draft.

Requirements

  1. Include the full source citation at the beginning of each summary.
  2. Follow current APA format guidelines.
  3. Provide sufficient information in the summary so the reader knows what the article contributes to the Research Paper – Final Draft. For example, if you mention a study, also include a summary of the relevant findings. To say, “The authors conducted a study” without an explanation of what they found offers no information.
  4. List the sources alphabetically according to the first author’s last name.
  5. Include a title page.

This assignment is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 3.

Using current APA format, you will create a working outline for your final research paper. This outline will include a title page (making any corrections from research paper topic and annotated bibliography feedback). Using current APA headings, you will outline your paper into various sections. You must include a brief summary of the kind of content and scholarly sources you plan to include in each section, giving a clear direction for your final research paper. Sources must be referenced as appropriate, following current APA format, and you must include your references in an APA reference list at the end of the working outline.

Using the information and feedback gained from the Topic, Annotated Bibliography, and Working Outline, you will create a 10–12-page Research Paper on your approved topic.

Research Paper – Final Draft Instructions

Using the information and feedback gained from the Topic, Annotated Bibliography, and Working Outline, you will create a 10–12-page Research Paper on your approved topic. Your title page, abstract, and reference page(s) may not count toward the 10–12 pages. Also, you may not copy and paste your annotated bibliography into your final paper. At least 10 peer-reviewed sources must be used to support your paper, and current APA format must be adhered to.

After completing your final draft, submit your Research Paper using the SafeAssign link provided in Module/Week 7. SafeAssign will help you judge the originality of your paper and avoid plagiarism. Plagiarism includes: a) failing to cite another’s work when you have used that person’s ideas, b) copying another’s work or just changing a word or two in a passage or phrase (even if you cite it), c) copying another’s work without appropriate quotation citation, or d) copying your own work without appropriate citation (APA Chapter 1, Section 1.10, p. 15-16).

You may submit the paper 1 time via the draft link to check your score and make revisions, but only until the final due date.

Utilize the grading rubric provided to ensure your work follows expectations.

This assignment is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 7.

You will write 2 Journal Article Reviews (Modules/Weeks 1 and 5), which will be based upon your choice of articles from the professional, peer-reviewed journal articles provided in Blackboard.

Journal Article Reviews Instructions

You will write 2 Journal Article Reviews (Modules/Weeks 1 and 5), which will be based upon your choice of articles from the professional, peer-reviewed journal articles provided in Blackboard. No outside articles will be accepted. Each Journal Article Summary must be 3–5 double-spaced pages (not including the title and reference pages) and created in a Microsoft Word document. Use the following guidelines to create your paper:

  1. Start your paper with a title page, correctly formatted per current APA. Use the provided template and the basic current APA components will be in place. Divide your paper into sections with the following Level One headings: Summary, Reflection, and Application as described on the template.
  2. Develop a summary (40 points) of the main concepts from the article. Do not duplicate the article’s abstract. If the article describes a research study, include brief statements about the hypotheses, methods, results, discussion, and implications. If any test measures or statistical methods used are given in the article, do not provide detailed descriptions of these. Short direct quotations from the article are acceptable, but avoid long quotes in a paper this size. This section is the foundation of your Journal Article Review (at least a third of your paper). Make sure you include the core points from the article, even if it means a longer section. Do not reference any additional articles in your summary.
  3. In approximately 1 page, reflect (15 points) on the article using your own words. Appropriate comments for this part of the paper could include, but are not limited to, your initial response to the article, comments regarding the study’s design or methodology (if any), insights you gained from reading the article, your reasons for being interested in this particular article, any other readings that you may plan to do based upon having read the article, and other thoughts you have that might further enhance the discussion of your article. Your subjective comments in this section must be clearly tied to main points from the article, not peripheral ideas. Again, do not reference any other article.
  4. In your final section, in approximately 1 page, write how you would apply the information you have learned from this article to a particular counseling setting. Make this setting one that would typically be seen in human services counseling—community services agencies, adoption agencies, volunteer counseling settings such as in churches, etc. Develop this section as if you are a pastor or clinician and your parishioner or client has come to you with a problem—grief, depression, substance abuse, relationships problems, etc.— needing your help. Adequately describe the counseling scenario including the presenting problem. Draw out concepts from the article and apply them to the scenario as if you were guided only by the content of the article. Show the reader how you expressly drew from the journal article in this application section and cite correctly, per APA.
  5. Use the provided current APA template and personalize the template for your particular article.

Point values for each section as well as for writing can be found on the grading rubric. Remember that all papers in the program must be written to professional (graduate level) standards and writing can contribute 15 points to your score.

Submit both Journal Article Reviews in Blackboard through the assignment submission links in Modules/Weeks 1 and 5.

Journal Article Review 1 is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 1.

Journal Article Review 2 is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 5.

The 4-MAT REVIEW system is a way of responding to readings, lectures, and life experiences that requires the learner to interact with new ideas on several levels

LEAD 510 4-MAT Book Review Instructions

The 4-MAT REVIEW system is a way of responding to readings, lectures, and life experiences that requires the learner to interact with new ideas on several levels.

Please use the following format in preparing 4-MAT Book Reviews:

  1. Abstract. Summarize what you have read, boiling the book down into 400-600 words (no more than 2 pages). Prove you comprehend the readings by writing a no-nonsense summary. The abstract is not a commentary or listing of topics but rather an objective summary from the reader’s viewpoint. Abstract equals “boiled down.” This section should include a minimum of 2 footnotes to the text being reviewed.
  2. Concrete Response. Get vulnerable! In no less than 250 words and no more than 1 page, relate a personal life experience that this book triggered in your memory. Relate your story in first person, describing action, and quoting exact words you remember hearing or saying. In the teaching style of Jesus, this is a do-it-yourself parable, case study, confession. You will remember almost nothing you have read unless you make this critical, personal connection. What video memory began to roll? This is your chance to tell your story and make new ideas your own.
  3. Reflection. This is the critical thinking part of the review (not critical in the sense of negative, but in the sense of questioning). In no less than 250 words and no more than 1 page, describe what questions pop up for you in response to what you have read. Keep a rough-note sheet at hand as you read. Out smart the author by asking better questions than he/she raised in the book. Tell how the author could have made the book better or more appealing to those in your field of service. One way to begin this section is by stating what bothered you most about the book. This is not a place to provide an endorsement or affirmation of the book.
  4. Action. So what are you going to do about it? In 400-600 words (no less than 1 page and no more than 2 pages) provide 2 actions that describe what changes you are going to make in your life, ministry, and/or work as a result of your reading. Actions should be measurable and reveal a commitment to specific time, specific people, and identified steps.
  5. Please provide a Turabian style* title page, pagination, footnotes & Bibliography.

*Or APA style which includes title page, pagination, citations and Reference page.
